This annotated bibliography complements Rosemary M. Canfield Reisman and Christopher J. Canfield’s Contemporary Southern Women Fiction Writers published as part of The Magill Bibliographies series in 1994. In a detailed introduction to the present volume Reisman and Booker‐Canfield admit that “because of the difficulty of defining ‘contemporary’ and ‘Southern’” they “were forced to omit many fine authors from” their study. For the purposes of the bibliography “contemporary” means “having published a significant work of fiction during the last decade”. Unfortunately they do not explain the evaluative word “significant”.
