North American Romance Writers is a collection of essays by 30 authors who came to prominence during an explosion of romance publishing in the first half of the 1980s. This explosion began as Simon & Schuster focused on US and Canadian settings for “category romances” by native authors, so veering away from, and competing with, the established model which was British‐based.
