This is a classic reference book that really needs no commendation from me. It first saw the light of day in 1948, but what really astonishes me is that it has taken over 50 years for the fourth edition to appear. I would not have been surprised to find that this was the fourteenth rather than the fourth edition. According to the rather inadequate information on the back of the title‐page, editions appeared in the United States in 1955, 1965 and 1987.
