Even in the electronic age it is probably a safe bet that The Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature,Volume 4, 1800‐1900, third edition, edited by Joanne Shattock, will have a lengthy shelf life. Its predecessors certainly did. George Watson edited The New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature, Volume 3, 1800‐1900 published in 1969. This replaced volume three of F.W. Bateson’s The Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature published in 1940, and its 1957 supplement.
