Archaeological Method and Theory: An Encyclopaedia

This encyclopaedia covers the fields of archaeological methodology, including site formation, site discovery, excavation, documentation and recording, conservation, post‐excavation, and also the development of archaeological theory. Its strengths are that the contributors are, without doubt, experts in their field and read like a roll‐call of the great and good in archaeological method and theory, and that each article is followed by a useful, and generally up‐to‐date, short bibliography.

Unfortunately, the subject range makes for a slightly unusual mix of articles and a book which feels unsatisfactory. Neither the encyclopaedia style nor the marrying of technical and theoretical approaches work satisfactorily...
