The Mineral Gallery, the “first Internet Rock Shop”, is a collection of mineral descriptions, images, and specimens. The site is hosted by Amethyst Galleries, a commercial enterprise who “believes [they] can provide a positive contribution to the Internet . . . and fund it through sales of related items.” The mineral information is freely available on the Internet; users can, however, choose to purchase actual specimens.
