An Elizabeth Gaskell Chronology

Of the great Victorian women writers, Elizabeth Gaskell (1810‐1865) has probably not been accorded the credit and recognition due to her superb creative achievements. Recently the relative neglect is being corrected. The publication in 1997 of a slightly enlarged edition of The Letters of Mrs Gaskell, (Chapple and Pollard 1997), first published in 1996, was a sign of a serious reassessment underway. This was followed by Further Letters of Mrs Gaskell (Chapple and Shelston 2003).
