In Frasier, the enormously popular and very amusing American TV sitcom set in Seattle, Washington, the eponymous main character is heard frequently being rude about English cooking as provided by the British live‐in carer, Daphne Moon. Ha! thinks the British viewer, this is rich coming from a country which gave us the hamburger and the frankfurter. So how come that the Oxford University Press, even its New York office, can find so much about the subject to fill over 1,500 pages spread over two volumes?
