The Oxford Companion to American Food and Drink

The first thing that must be remarked about this volume concerns the price which, in these days of three‐figure sterling or US dollar prices, is remarkably cheap. And, it's not a slight work, either. One thinks of hamburgers and hot dogs as the sole American contributions to the culinary arts, but perusing Mr Smith's book it offers many other delights. But, even at 693 pages, does this price provide value for money at £25? Well, on the whole it does and not just for the many illustrations that accompany the text.
