The publisher commissioned this gazetteer as a companion to Paris – A Musical Gazetteer (Simeone, 2000), and the authors have generally followed the pattern of that book. Lewis Foreman has made a name for himself with his studies of British composers active over the last century and a half, and especially with his biography of Arnold Bax (Foreman, 1988).
