Temples of Ancient Egypt is the result of a symposium at Fordham University in New York. The symposium took place in 1992, but it was not until 1995 that it was translated into a book. First published in hardback in 1997 this edition is a reprint.

The five contributors are experts in their field and the editor is at pains to emphasise that both he and Ragnhild Bjerre Finnestad are minority experts in the field of Egyptian religious studies. He further writes that they all attempt to include anthropological perspectives in their essays; a viewpoint otherwise underrepresented in the literature....
