American Generals of the Revolutionary War draws on primary sources, such as death and census records, records of the Continental Congress, and contemporary writings to present biographical sketches of the generals of the first American armies. Each entry includes dates and places of birth, pre‐war education and occupations, wartime contributions, post‐war occupations, dates and places of death, and places of burial. Many entries include black and white portraits.

The volume only covers the American army. There are no sketches for American admirals or for Loyalists or British allies. It does include French, German, Polish, and other allied generals but not...
