The Routledge Contemporary Cultures series has had a pretty good reception from reviewers, including in Reference Reviews (e.g. most recently RR 2006/116 and RR 2004/51). With “culture” liberally interpreted to include such topics as fashion, lifestyle, cooking, transport and crime, as well as the traditional film, literature and music, and covering economics and politics, these volumes do good service on the reference shelves. Of course, we will all differ as to what to include/exclude, and whether we want longer/shorter entries, but these handy volumes provide an excellent starting point for enquiries and can usually deliver a quick reference answer and...
