The Dictionary of Nonprofit Terms and Concepts is a compendium of approximately 1,200 terms and concepts that are used in research on the non‐profit sector. Smith, the founder of the Association of Researchers on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), has worked for over 30 years to identify and define the terms and concepts relating to non‐profits in an attempt to build a common language necessary for continuing research and the development of a general theory of the sector.
