Ancient Greek philosophy is considered to be the cornerstone of medieval and modern Western philosophy, Islamic philosophy and other thinking traditions from around the world. Certainly it is the first philosophy that had influence outside its country of origin and the first to be written down and translated into many languages for a wider audience. It is perhaps then not so remarkable that so much of the thinking of the ancient Greeks has survived.
