If we discount the now dated Duignan (1971), there are three major general printed guides to African reference and information sources, all of which have now been updated in the last few years. Alfred Kagan's Reference Guide to Africa (Kagan, 2005) (RR 2006/231) was the first to be revised with a second edition, followed by a fourth edition of Hans Zell's The African Studies Companion (Zell, 2006) (RR 2007/351). Now we have a revised and expanded version of Africa: A Guide to Reference Material, the first edition of which appeared in 1993....
