A Dictionary of British America is a prelude to a history of the USA and includes Canada and the West Indies. The West Indies were more important to Britain than the American colonies in the eighteenth century and Britain had more pressing political concerns at home and in other parts of the empire.

The book includes brief biographies of kings, queens and leading politicians in Britain as well as men and women active in the colonies. It covers acts of parliament and the provincial assemblies. It treats military campaigns on both sides of the ocean but uses their American names...
