Crosbie Walsh is a population geographer whose research since the mid‐1960s has focussed on social, economic and spatial inequalities in the Pacific Islands. He pioneered Development Studies as an academic discipline in New Zealand universities, was the first director of the Institute of Development Studies at Massey University, and, prior to retirement in 1999, founding Director of the Centre for Development Studies at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Suva, Fiji.
