This book is a reworking of The World's Coastline of 1985 of which an e‐version was produced in 2004. Some chapters have been taken from the previous work but the vast majority is new or substantially updated. In a way the old title is more obvious as this encyclopedia is not a series of articles on things like cliffs, sand dunes and erosion but rather a description of global coastlines starting at the International Date Line, with Alaska, and ending, after the Pacific Ocean Islands, with Antarctica.
