The Companion Guide to Rome (9th edition)

This is probably the best guide to historic and modern Rome in print. However, do not expect to be given any information on hotels, restaurants or cafes, travel information (other than on foot), or the myriad of other pieces of information printed in most modern travel guides to the city. Instead, this is a rich compendium of information on ancient, medieval and sometimes modern Rome, including museums and art galleries. It has been revised from the original 1965 edition several times and now includes much which Georgina Masson chose to leave out (she was apparently quite eccentric in her choices)....
