Historical Dictionary of Competitive Swimming Available to Purchase

This is the first specialist reference work on swimming since Pat Besford's Encyclopaedia of Swimming (Besford, 1976) published in the Robert Hale Sports Encyclopedia series. Sadly, for this UK based reviewer with an in‐depth knowledge of the sport, it is frankly disappointing. I was excited by the prospect of this series, hopeful that they would be more comprehensive and detailed in the individual sports and their personalities than the more recent general encyclopedias and dictionaries of sport.
