A thorough collection of references to string quartets, this volume arranges material from a number of catalogues according to six broad headings. By far the largest of these is chapter three (over 350 pages) where references relate to the string quartets of individual composers, although the preceding chapter on historical aspects of the string quartet runs to some 65 pages and chapter five on aspects of performance to 40 pages.
