The English Renaissance is a nebulous period, but the dates given by Sullivan and Stewart as inclusion criteria for these volumes are roughly 1485 to 1670, reaching from the War of the Roses to the Restoration. For a 200‐year period that saw the likes of Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, Thomas Hobbes, John Bunyan and yea, even Will Shakespeare (though as the set notes Marlowe and Bacon are often considered to be Shakespeare), the page count may seem a little slim.
