The Sculpture of Gertrude Hermes

It is good to see a detailed study of the sculpture of Gertrude Hermes, the British artist who was born in 1901 and died in 1983, and one carried out so sympathetically. Hermes is probably better known for her wood‐engravings, above all the distinctive work carried out on works like W. H. Davies's The Lovers' Song‐Book from the Gregynog Press in the 1930s. Earlier she had contributed copper engraved work to Robert Gibbing's Golden Cockerell Press, and then in the Penguin Illustrated Classics in the late 1930s to Richard Jefferies's The Story of My Heart.
