“Bénézit” has been one of the major reference sources on the biographies of artists since the early years of the twentieth century. Emmanuel Bénézit (1854‐1920) and a team of specialists produced the first edition, in French, in 1911 (three volumes). Later editions were eight volumes in 1948‐1955, ten in 1976, 14 in 1999, fourteen in the English edition in 2006, and now the online version from Oxford University Press, who acquired the title from Editions Gründ in 2010.
