A Dictionary of Modern and Contemporary Art is the second edition of A Dictionary of Twentieth Century Art by Ian Chilvers alone published in 1998. With support and encouragement from Chilvers, who suggested this edition, John Glaves‐Smith has added to the original work. This edition contains over 2,000 authoritative entries, 300 of which are new. A large number of existing entries have been revised. Some artists omitted previously because they were not established have now been included. In total this edition is about a fifth longer than the original.
