Founded in 1996, the National Women's History Museum is a privately‐funded organization currently without a physical building or traditional exhibition programme. As the board works toward establishing “the first ever national museum in Washington, DC dedicated exclusively to women's history”, the museum maintains a virtual presence with a website that includes online exhibits and an outreach section called Education & Resources. One of the resources offered is a biographical index which links names of prominent women in American history to a narrative about her life. The narratives vary in length, authorship and quality of original sources.
