It is generally accepted that modern humans evolved in North Africa and spread from there to the rest of the world. As I pointed out when reviewing the Historical Dictionary of the Berbers (Ilahiane, 2006) (RR 2007/205) this means that the Berbers of North Africa have some dubious claim to be the only non‐immigrant people in the world. All the rest of us are descended from immigrants.
