This work examines European furniture produced from 1830 to 1910. It was the period when mass production of furniture began and when there were long periods of peace in Europe to allow the industry to grow. The chapters are generally arranged by country, with one chapter called Franglais, which is a style that mixed English and French designs. France was the leader in styles in this period and, therefore, takes about half of the book.
