In their Introduction [Modern Jewish Fiction (pp. 1-15)] to The Edinburgh Companion to Modern Jewish Fiction, editors David Brauner and Axel Stähler write “this collection of essays […]. Is the first volume to bring together essays on American, British, South African, Canadian and Australian Jewish fiction with such a wide range of reference” (p. 1). Preceding their Introduction is a stimulating optimistic Preface: Jews Have Legs (pp. ix-xviii) by Mark Shechner, outlining the parameters of the volume.
