The Anime Encyclopedia, now in its third revision, is meant to be “a major resource on film art and culture in Japan”, according to its promotional blurbs. This is a claim certainly supported because there are very few works which approach the topic of anime from a collective and evaluative standpoint and none as exhaustive as this volume in sheer number of titles covered.
