Purpose

Based on the resource-based view and stakeholder theories, this study aims to investigate the associations among organizational sustainable ethics, green innovation and firms’ economic competitiveness as well as the indirect relationship between organizational sustainable ethics and green innovation through stakeholder pressure.

Design/methodology/approach

Structural equation modelling was used to analyse data from 200 firms in Ghana based on a structured questionnaire.

Findings

This study indicates that stakeholder pressure mediates between organizational sustainable ethics and green innovation activities. Moreover, organizational sustainable ethics and green innovation were found to have a positive impact on firms’ economic competitiveness.

Originality/value

This study contributes to green production literature by explaining firms’ green practices from internal organizational culture perspective while recognizing the cogent role of key stakeholders.
