Findings

At the FT Innovate 2006: Innovation for Growth conference, organized by FT Conferences, a number of presenters and leading thinkers tackled the question, what can you do to make your organization a constant innovator? One presentation looked at the importance of business mindsets, and reported that one of the biggest barriers to innovation is the factor of gravity; a metaphor that relates to the invisible mindset that drags down ideas: it blocks new ideas and minimizes “orbit‐shifting” initiatives. Another presentation reported the importance that metrics can make when it comes to innovation and creativity; a sensible set of metrics, driven by leadership, can massively change or enable the implementation of an innovation program much more effectively, and more rapidly, than any type of change management initiative.

Practical implications
