Design/methodology/approach

Findings

Within the next ten years, all product‐based businesses will need to be well aware of the latest advances in a technology known as RFID. Radio frequency identification, which could be described as an update to barcoding, takes the form of a small tag containing electronic product code (EPC) data. This data, which may include details of cost, date of production, date of shipping, expiry date, and so on, can be picked up by an EPC reader and then transferred to a database to be used in various ways.

Practical implications

Provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world's leading organizations.

Originality/value

The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy‐to digest format.
