Strategic planning in any organisation faces multiple issues. One major issue is the disconnect which can often occur between strategic goals and the results. Planning for a certain eventuality too strictly can leave no room to allow for uncertainty and unforeseen events. As such, inflexible strategic plans can cause managers to “break” promises, but through an inability to adapt to events because of constraints put on them by executives. To counter this problem, Solouki (2017) proposes using narratives rather than fixed strategic plans to provide some flexibility for managers to adapt to unforeseen events and still achieve the desired goals....
