Purpose – Notes the increasing interest in corporate social responsibility among European firms and looks at recruitment to corporate social responsibility roles in firms and the skills that are wanted. Design/methodology/approach – Quotes from researchers and recruitment specialists, as well as representatives of UK firms. Reviews the type of people that firms are recruiting to handle corporate social responsibility matters for them and reviews the skills that they are looking for. Indicates where the corporate social responsibility function sits within company structures and how it is evaluated. Findings – Notes that there are many graduates with corporate social responsibility-related skills available and that competition for jobs is stiff. Points out that many firms recruit people to work on corporate social responsibility issues from inside the firm because these people know the business and the industry but also underlines the importance of understanding corporate social responsibility issues. Reports that the role and evaluation of the posts varies from firm to firm. Originality/value –Provides an overview of how European and UK firms are handling corporate social responsibility.
