This issue of Sensor Review is largely devoted to a special report on automatic speech recognition. It is a subject which, during the next few years will become of rapidly growing importance to industry, though at present its applications are strictly limited. As a sensing technology it bears some comparison with vision sensing, though the differences are much greater than the similarities and it is not yet as highly developed.
