Linear measuring system with Profibus-DP now available from Balluff-MultiSwitch

The Micropulse magnetostrictive linear transducers from Balluff-MultiSwitch are now available with integrated Profibus-DP (see Plate 2).

These transducers allow simultaneous processing of up to four positions and their respective velocities. The maximum cycle time for data transmission is 1ms. At a resolution of 5 µm (1µm for the high performance transducer)for position and 0.1mm/s for velocity, these transducers can be used for high-precision positioning tasks. Programmable parameters, such as resolution,zero point and working range, are modified over the BUS using the GSD file. Automatic baud rate detection by the transducer assures trouble-free start-up in Profibus systems with baud rates between 9.6kbps and 12Mbps. Addresses are assigned using DIP switches or can be configured through software.

To keep installation time and wiring costs to a minimum, three connectors are provided for the transducer electrical connections. Both BUS lines can be connected using standard Profibus cable with moulded-in connector or using user-assembled connectors. The supply voltage (24V) for the transducer is provided separately via an M8 connector.
