During the EirTronics 2000 Exhibition held at The Point, Dublin, Joe Borinski, of 3COM and SMART Group Ireland Committee member, announced that Paul O'Keefe was the winner of The SMART Group "Student of the Year Award". Sponsored by 3COM, Paul wins the trophy, a cheque for È500 and a PALM 5. Borinski was impressed with the quality of work submitted. The project with EMC in Cork was the development of a diagnostic interconnection and test system for BGAs.
Runners up were Tomas Lineham, for a project on the mechanical stress and corrosion analysis of ink jet cartridge design working with HP, and Daithi O'Lorain from The University of Cork. Both win a trophy and PALM 3.
