Acquisitions of EMS competitors exceed those of OEM divestitures

Since August 2000, merger and acquisition activity has been moving in a new direction in the EMS industry. From 1998 to date, electronics manufacturing services (EMS) companies have been acquiring facilities divested by OEMs in equal numbers to or more than competitors. However, in the last three months Technology Forecasters Inc.'s (TFI) database has shown a developing trend where EMS companies buy competitors more often than OEM facilities.
