Philips EMT secures major multi-million US$ contract from Ionics EMS

Keyword: Philips

Philips EMT has won a major multi-million US$ contract from Ionics EMS, Inc.,one of Asia's leading contract equipment manufacturers (CEMs). The order builds on their already successful relationship, which spans over five years.

Under the terms of the deal, Philips EMT will supply, install and ramp-up to agreed production levels seven new double-sided PCB assembly lines at one of Ionics' manufacturing plants in Manila, The Philippines. The seven production lines represent a best-in-class solution, being the equivalent of 21 traditional lines. Work to build the first lines began in July, and all seven will be in full production within 18 months.

The contract includes supply of 21 Fast Component Mounters (FCMs), 21 Topaz-Xis, 14 screen printers and 14 re-flow ovens, as well as board transports and board handlers.

Each new line at the Ionics plant will assemble PCBs, one side at a time, for CD-recordable end products. At full capacity, one double-sided board will be completed every 14 seconds, equating to over 2 million completed boards per year while in 24-hour operation.

Philips EMT will guarantee output by taking responsibility for several production stages. It will also alter the factory layout at Ionics, train machine technicians and advise on existing, and new, process and line efficiency.
