Industrial Silicones & Lubricants (ISL) has enhanced its portfolio with a new range of zero ozone depleting potential (ODP) cleaning and drying solvents from DuPont.

Addressing the three major issues facing the integrity of the earth's atmosphere, namely ozone depletion, global warming and smog formation from VOCs,Vertrel® solvents are designed to meet the year 2001 deadline for the elimination of HCFCs. Vertrel high performance cleaning and drying solvents offer effective replacement of CFC and HCFC solvents and are ideal for use in a wide variety of cleaning, rinsing and drying processes in the electrical and electronic industries. These include cleaning of hybrid circuits, relay contacts and precision metal parts, defluxing, degreasing and cleaning high and low voltage electrical systems and fibre optics.

Vertrel is a proprietary HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) fluid that can also be used as a carrier, heat transfer and dielectric fluid. Key features include zero ODP,low global warming potential (GWP), excellent toxicity profile, non-flammable(no flashpoint, no auto-ignition) and excellent thermal, chemical and hydrolytic stability. In addition, Vertrel offers low surface tension, low viscosity and high liquid density, high material compatibility with most metals, plastics and elastomers and very low solubility for water.

Easily miscible with most common solvents, Vertrel high performance cleaning and drying fluids are recommended for use in azeotrope-based systems although they are perfectly suited for use in co-solvent processes in combination with a low volatility solvating agent.
