HumiSeal celebrated 50 years with a new water-based coating launch at Productronica 2007
HumiSeal® announced the global launch of its 1H20 AR3 water-based conformal coating solution at the Productronica 2007 show in Munich. The company is also celebrating 50 years of supplying quality conformal coating solutions to the global market this year.
Leading manufacturer of conformal coating solutions, HumiSeal Europe, used the Productronica 2007 show as a stage to launch its revolutionary new water-based conformal coating product, 1H20 AR3. The event, held at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre, gave visitors a chance to see how the product will be able to reduce VOC emissions without compromising functionality or reliability.
HumiSeal has engineered a revolutionary new water-based conformal coating addition to its industry-leading range which can protect electronics assemblies at temperature extremes far beyond the capabilities of existing resin-based alternatives.
Phil Kinner, European Sales and Technical Manager for Humiseal Europe,explained more about this new product: “1H20 AR3 has been 3 years in the making and represents a significant step forward in terms of reliability and performance. It is a high performance, high solids, fast drying, water-based acrylic that has been designed to be especially suited to high volume, in-line dip coating applications. It has excellent electrical properties, directly comparable with solvent-based acrylics, whilst it has considerably improved adhesion properties and chemical/solvent resistance.”
Kinner continued: “As a water-based coating, 1H20 AR3 is an extremely safe, low odour, low VOC product, developed to enable high volume customers to meet the European Council's ever stricter emissions targets, not to mention the various health and safety requirements placed on industry. It enables enormous reductions in VOC emissions especially in the automotive sector.”
The performance characteristics of Humiseal 1H20 AR3 stem from the development of a new acrylic emulsion formulation, developed from the beginning with automotive dip-coating applications in mind. 1H20 AR3 offers:
40mm build per dip;
15min cure at 80ºC;
extremely high insulation and moisture insulation values (MIR); and
exceptionally good adhesion to all common substrates.
1H20 AR3 also boasts characteristics deigned to aid inspection and application. When the coating is first applied it has a milky white appearance that allows operators to gauge coverage during the coating process. This effect gradually fades during the drying cycle, leaving only the transparent film once the coating is dry to touch. Further inspection is assisted by a UV tracer within the compound, which causes the coating to glow blue under long wavelength UV radiation.
Whilst 1H20 AR3 has been developed especially for the automotive dip-coating sector, it meets the requirements of MIL-I-46058C and is therefore entirely suited to anybody who likes the concept of water-based coatings but has been put off by the extended cure times. 1H20 AR3 is also available in a grade for spray application, which offers the same benefits of higher solids content and faster drying times.
