Purpose
This article aims to make people aware of the Award and to give a bit of background to who Elly Jansen is.

Conversational, informational.
Findings
This study describes the Award and some of Elly Jansen’s early history and reason for funding the Award.
Research limitations/implications
The aim is to foster new research.
Practical implications
This should encourage particularly new writers and researchers to produce material on subjects related to therapeutic communities.
Social implications
The Award should open up writing and research to more people with lived experience as well as up-and-coming professionals.
Originality/value
The piece is original and describes an Award that is only just in its second year and not widely known as yet.
