Grupo Puntacana, the largest tourist organizations in eastern Dominican Republic, was established as a top luxury resort for very wealthy investors. The high price of housing enforced the inclusion of up-to-date waste management and environmentally sustainable facilities. The corporation decided to protect its beaches, coral reefs and, ultimately, its investments, by addressing land-based pollution. It established a “Zero Waste” disposal system.
