The purpose of the project was to establish a European Knowledge Centre for the Prevention of and Response to Sexual abuse of People with a Learning Disability. The idea of founding a Knowledge Centre originates from the need for systematic structural support for exchanging information and knowledge about sexual abuse ‐ particularly for and from a service provider's perspective. Because of the negative impact of abuse, early and appropriate assistance is very important. Preventative work in educating people with learning disabilities about sexuality is also vital, to enable them to make informed relationship and sexual choices and to cultivate greater resilience. The Knowledge Centre is easily accessible, allowing enquirers to gain information and to be linked to other services and networks to learn about their experiences and research, and to forge new links.
