Introduction: what marketing strategy for destinations with a negative image?

Dr Hugues Seraphin holds a PhD from the Université de Perpignan Via Domitia (France). He joined The University of Winchester (Business School) in 2012 as a Lecturer in Event Management. He was appointed Programme Leader of the Event Management Programme in January 2016. His teaching and research interests include Event Management and Tourism Management with a focus on post-colonial, post-conflict and post-disaster destinations.

Dr Vanessa G.B. Gowreesunkar has undertaken her PhD in the field of Tourism Management, a merit scholarship based on her academic achievement. Vanessa is a Lecturer and Researcher by profession, and she has ten years of teaching experience at under-graduate and post-graduate levels. She is the Vice President of ANPRAS (www.anpras.org), a regional Non-Governmental Association for Africa. Dr Vanessa has led various local and African projects related to community-based tourism, sustainable tourism and social entrepreneurship. She has a number of publications in the international peer-refereed journals. Vanessa is an elected member of the African Union ECOSOCC for the Women and Gender Cluster. Vanessa’s research interest is not limited to tourism management, destination marketing, entrepreneurship and island tourism.
