The Roto‐Finish precision barrel techniques were invented in America in the 1940s as the result of a foreman's dissatisfaction with the then current methods of finishing metal parts by hand. He went to his managing director with a suggestion for a mechanised method of finishing and, after many months of experimental work, they devised a satisfactory method and patented it. This new technique, known as the Roto‐Finish process, arrived in time to make a distinguished contribution to the American industry's war effort.
