Corus re-energizes cold drawn tubes business

Corus Tubes is re-focusing and invigorating the sales and marketing of Corus cold drawn tubes (CDTs) with a new Web site, brochure and the recruitment of a new field salesman.

CDT is the UK's leading manufacturer of precision cold drawn seamless and cold drawn welded drawn over mandrel (DOM) steel tubing, supplying a competitive international market. The manufacturing plant in the West Midlands is one of the most versatile mill complexes in Europe, perfectly located to supply both UK and European customers.

As David Houghton, Site Manager at CDT Broadwell explains: "the Web site www.colddrawntubes.com is now operational and will increasingly become our 'shop window' to the world. In addition, we are investing in the sales team and generally increasing the profile of the business with a vigorous marketing campaign."

CDT products from the seven lines at the Broadwell mill range from 12 to 230 mm diameter and are used mainly in the automotive, hydraulic, power generation, mining and general engineering sectors. These tubes are high quality products relied on as engine, chassis and suspension components as well as hydraulic cylinders and in numerous specialist applications such as aircraft seating, glass production, stair lifts, printing and synthetic fibre production.

"We began producing tube at Broadwell over 70 years ago and have remained one of the UK's leaders in cold drawn tube production ever since" says David Houghton. The site currently has 99 employees with an annual capacity of 12,000 tonnes of CDTs from both seamless and welded feedstock. CDT is produced to meet all major national and international specifications and can be made to particular, more stringent specifications as required.

CDT is one of the leading manufacturers of skived and burnished tube in Europe, which is ready to be cut to length for hydraulic cylinder manufacture. However, the largest market is clearly the automotive sector which takes around 45 per cent of production.
