Humber “NETS” worldwide fishing contract
A family-run company established over 150 years which has been supplying equipment to fishing vessels for over 100 years, has developed a successful working partnership with Humber Galvanizing Ltd, of Hull, for the galvanizing of trawl doors which it exports around the world.
Edwin Ashworth Marine, based in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, produces a wide range of the doors in different sizes, which are used in pairs and run along the sea bed and spread the net.
The company's John Ashworth, who is the fifth generation of his family to work in the business, said: “We supply the doors to fishing vessels of different sizes, and have recently sent orders to America, Greece and Norway. We use Humber Galvanizing to galvanize the smaller doors, because the smaller fishing boats do not go to sea all year round – while the doors are out of the water, that is when they corrode. This corrosion would be likely to shorten the working life of these doors, so galvanizing them makes commercial sense.”
“When people see our products they really stand out from those made by other companies because they stay clean and corrosion-free. It creates a good impression. I am very pleased with the level of service we receive from Humber Galvanizing; for example, the doors are always collected from our premises and delivered back afterwards.”

Humber Galvanizing Ltd's modern, fully-enclosed galvanizing bath is 5:5× 1:2 × 2:8 m is ideally suited to carrying out skilled galvanizing work of this kind and meets all the latest international and national environment protection requirements.
